GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK THREE: ALIGN GIFTS, GENERATIONS, AND RELATIONSHIPS

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Audio teaching for this study will be posted soon.

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

ἀληθεύω

alētheuō

STRONG'S G226

To speak truth, be truthful; to deal truly. From alētheia (truth). Found only in Galatians 4:16 and Ephesians 4:15. In Ephesians it describes a life and speech characterized by truth, joined inseparably to love.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Nathan and David (). After David's sin with Bathsheba, Nathan the prophet came with a parable that let David see his own guilt, then said plainly, "Thou art the man." Nathan did not flatter the king, nor did he humiliate him publicly. His truthful word led to David's repentance (), and Nathan remained a trusted voice later ().

EXPOSITION

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ” (, KJV). Verse 14 described immature believers tossed by every wind of doctrine and deceived by cunning men. Verse 15 gives the alternative: "speaking the truth in love." The Greek phrase is broader than "speaking." It can be rendered "truthing in love" — holding, living, and speaking truth. Truth is not only a set of correct statements; it is a way of life that matches reality as God reveals it. But notice the pairing. Truth without love becomes harsh. It wounds, divides, and often drives people away from the very truth being spoken. Love without truth becomes sentimental. It avoids hard conversations, tolerates what destroys, and leaves people in error. Paul will not let us choose one. The mature body holds both. And the result is growth: "may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ." Truth in love is not only the mark of maturity; it is the means of maturity. The body grows when members speak honestly and lovingly to one another. Later in the chapter Paul makes this practical: "putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another" (4:25). Lying damages the body because we belong to each other. He also says, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying" (4:29). Week Three ends here, and this verse ties it together. Leaders equip with truth in love. Maturity is marked by truth in love. Gifts are exercised with truth in love. Generations strengthen each other through truth in love. Divine connections complete one another through truth in love. Many relationships in the body are strained because truth was withheld or because truth was delivered without love. Alignment asks for both: honest words that aim to build, spoken from a heart that seeks the other's good. Grow up into Him in all things — including how you speak.

REFLECTION

Do I tend to speak truth without love, or love without truth?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are full of grace and truth. Make me like You. Deliver me from harsh truth and from cowardly love. Give me courage to speak honestly and compassion to speak kindly. Let my words build up Your body so that we grow up into You in all things. In Your name, amen.

CONFESSION

"I speak the truth in love, and through it the body grows up into Christ."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Identify a conversation you have been avoiding. Pray for love for the person, prepare your words, and speak the truth gently and clearly this week. Also examine one recent harsh word and repair it where needed.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Truthing in love. 1. Read . 2. Write every instruction about speech. 3. Recall a time someone spoke truth to you in love; write what made it effective. 4. Ask God to make your words both honest and edifying.
