GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK THREE: ALIGN GIFTS, GENERATIONS, AND RELATIONSHIPS

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

τέλειος

teleios

STRONG'S G5046

Complete, mature, full-grown, perfect in the sense of having reached its intended end (telos). Paul contrasts it with nēpios, an infant (Ephesians 4:14; 1 Corinthians 14:20).

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

The Corinthian believers (). Richly gifted (1:7), they were still "babes in Christ," fed with milk because "there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions." Their spiritual gifts did not prove their maturity; their divisions revealed their immaturity. Compare the Bereans (), who "searched the scriptures daily" to test what they heard.

EXPOSITION

“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive” (, KJV). Yesterday we saw why Christ gave equipping gifts. Today we see how long and toward what goal: "Till we all come..." The equipping continues until the body reaches maturity. Paul names three destinations. First, "the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God." Unity here is not just relational agreement; it is growing together in shared faith and in knowledge of Christ. Second, "a perfect man" — the word means mature, full-grown, complete. Interestingly, Paul uses the singular: the whole body growing into one mature man. Third, "the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." The standard of maturity is not a denomination, a leader, or a culture. It is Christ Himself. Then Paul describes immaturity: "children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine." Children in this picture are unstable, easily moved, like a small boat on rough water. New teachings, trends, and personalities blow them in every direction. Paul adds that some teachers use "sleight" — a word related to dice-playing, suggesting trickery — and "cunning craftiness" to deceive. This is why maturity matters for global alignment. An immature body can be gathered by excitement but scattered by the next wind. It can be impressed by gifts but unable to discern truth. Maturity gives stability: rooted in the knowledge of Christ, able to recognize error, not easily manipulated. Maturity is not the same as age, title, or years in church. Some long-time believers remain spiritual children. Maturity is measured by Christlikeness — love, truth, stability, discernment, and service. In September we learned that capacity without foundation becomes collapse. In October we learn that gifts without maturity become instability. The measure of a ministry is not how many gifts are displayed but how much Christ is formed in the people.

REFLECTION

Am I easily moved by new teachings and trends, or am I being rooted in the knowledge of Christ?

PRAYER

Lord, I do not want to remain a child tossed by every wind. Root me in the knowledge of Your Son. Grow me into maturity, into the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Give me discernment to recognize error and stability to remain in truth. In Jesus' name, amen.

CONFESSION

"Christ is the measure of my maturity. I will not be tossed by every wind of doctrine."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Choose one teaching you have recently heard or shared. Test it against the whole counsel of Scripture this week, the way the Bereans did. Commit to a steady plan of reading through one book of the New Testament this month.
