GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK THREE: ALIGN GIFTS, GENERATIONS, AND RELATIONSHIPS

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

καταρτισμός

katartismos

STRONG'S G2677

Equipping, complete furnishing, preparing, making fit. Occurs only here in the New Testament. Related to the verb katartizō, used of mending nets (Matthew 4:21), restoring a fallen believer (Galatians 6:1), and making believers complete (Hebrews 13:21).

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Moses and Joshua (; 24:13; 33:11; ; 34:9). Joshua served as Moses' minister for years, fought Israel's battles, and stayed near the tabernacle. Moses publicly charged him and laid hands on him, and Joshua was "full of the spirit of wisdom." Moses' leadership was measured in part by the leader he equipped.

EXPOSITION

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (, KJV). Week Three turns to the alignment of gifts, generations, and relationships. We begin with the gifts Christ gave to lead and equip His church. In verses 7–10 Paul explains that the ascended Christ "gave gifts unto men." Verse 11 names those gifts — not abilities in the abstract, but people: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. (Many interpreters read "pastors and teachers" as closely linked functions.) These are Christ's gifts to His church. Why were they given? Verse 12 answers: "for the perfecting of the saints." The word "perfecting" means equipping, mending, or fitting out for use. It was used of setting broken bones and mending nets (the related verb appears in of James and John "mending their nets"). Leaders are given to repair, prepare, and fit believers for service. The KJV's commas can make it look as though leaders do three separate tasks. But many scholars read the flow this way: leaders equip the saints for the work of ministry, so that the body of Christ is built up. The saints do the work of ministry. Leaders equip them to do it. This corrects two misalignments. One is the congregation that expects leaders to do all the ministry while members watch. The other is the leader who builds dependence instead of maturity. Both miss the design. The goal is a body in which every member is functioning. Apostolic ministry, in this light, is not about title or status. It is about Christ's gift being used to equip His people and build His body. The measure of a leader's success is not how much the leader does, but how well the saints are prepared to do the work. If you lead, ask: am I equipping or merely performing? If you are being led, ask: am I receiving equipping and then doing the work, or am I only receiving? Aligned gifts produce an equipped people.

REFLECTION

Am I being equipped for ministry, and am I actually doing the work I have been equipped for?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gifts You gave to equip Your church. Help me receive equipping with humility and turn it into service. If I lead, make me an equipper, not a performer. Build up Your body through saints who do the work of ministry. In Your name, amen.

CONFESSION

"Christ gave gifts to equip the saints. I receive equipping, and I do the work of ministry."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

If you lead: identify one person you will intentionally equip this month and schedule time with them. If you are being led: ask a leader where you can serve, and commit to one concrete act of ministry this week.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — From equipping to work. 1. Read . 2. Write down what you have been taught or trained in over the last year. 3. Beside each, write how you are using it to serve others. 4. Where there is a gap, ask God for an assignment.
