GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK TWO: ALIGN AS ONE BODY

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Audio teaching for this study will be posted soon.

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

χάρισμα

charisma

STRONG'S G5486

A gift of grace, a free and undeserved endowment. Built on charis (grace). Paul uses it for spiritual gifts given by God for the good of the body (Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:4) and even for salvation itself (Romans 6:23).

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

The twelve disciples (). Jesus chose Matthew, a tax collector who had worked for Rome, and Simon called Zelotes, identified with zeal for Israel. He chose fishermen and a man from Cana. Their temperaments differed — impulsive Peter, questioning Thomas, the "sons of thunder." Jesus did not make them identical; He made them His.

EXPOSITION

“For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us...” (, KJV). opens with a call to present our bodies as a living sacrifice and to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (12:1–2). The very next thing Paul addresses is how we think about ourselves in the body: "not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly" (12:3). A renewed mind shows up in renewed relationships. "All members have not the same office." The word translated "office" here means function or practice. Members do not all do the same thing. This is not a flaw to fix; it is the design. Then comes a phrase worth pausing on: "every one members one of another." We are not only members of Christ; we are members of each other. We belong to one another. My gift is not merely mine; it is given for you. Your gift is not merely yours; it is given for me. "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us." The gifts differ, but the source is the same: grace. No one's gift is a reward for superiority. Each gift is a measure of grace. The Roman church was a mix of Jewish and Gentile believers who had real tensions about food, days, and practice (–15). Paul did not solve those tensions by forcing everyone into one style. He called them to "receive ye one another, as Christ also received us" (15:7). Unity was rooted in Christ, not in uniformity of preference. Uniformity says, "Be like me, and we can be one." Unity says, "We are one in Christ, so we can be different without being divided." Uniformity is easier to manage but poorer in fruit. Unity requires love, humility, and trust in the Head. Alignment in October does not mean everyone preaching in the same style, worshiping in the same form, or serving in the same way. It means many members, different functions, one body, one Lord — each member belonging to the others.

REFLECTION

Do I confuse unity with everyone doing things my way?

PRAYER

Lord, renew my mind so that I think soberly about myself and rightly about others. Thank You for the grace-gifts You have distributed in Your body. Deliver me from demanding uniformity. Teach me to receive others as You have received me. In Jesus' name, amen.

CONFESSION

"We are many, yet one body in Christ. I belong to others, and my gift is for them."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Spend time this week with believers whose style of worship or ministry differs from yours. Look intentionally for Christ in them and for a gift you can learn from.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Belonging to one another. 1. Write "I am a member of ___" and list five believers by name. 2. Beside each, write one gift God has given them that differs from yours. 3. Thank God for the difference. 4. Ask how your gift is meant to serve them.
