PERCEIVING THE KINGDOM — PHASE FOUR PART TWO: AWAKENING, OUTPOURING, AND KINGDOM ADVANCEMENTKEY SCRIPTURE
LISTEN TO TODAY'S STUDY
GREEK WORD OF THE DAY
ἀνάψυξις
anapsyxis
STRONG'S G403
A refreshing; a recovery of breath. From ana, again, and psychō, to breathe or cool. Peter promises "times of refreshing" that come from the presence of the Lord following repentance (Acts 3:19). The picture is a people who had been gasping receiving breath again — revival is God restoring respiration to what was suffocating.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE
Josiah''s reformation (:25) — the rediscovered Book produced conviction, tearing of garments, national repentance, the dismantling of idolatrous systems, the restoration of Passover, and structural change across the land. Awakening reached his heart; reformation reached the nation''s architecture. Compare the day of Pentecost (): outpouring, conviction, three thousand repentant, then sustained doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, generosity, and daily additions. In both, the experience was verified by what it permanently changed.
EXPOSITION
REFLECTION
What evidence would distinguish genuine awakening from temporary spiritual excitement?
PRAYER
Father, do it again. Revive Your work in the midst of the years, and in wrath remember mercy. Begin with me — awaken what has grown cold, convict what I have excused, and restore hunger where I have settled for routine. Pour out Your Spirit on our households, our communities, and our nation. Let there be repentance and not only emotion, holiness and not only enthusiasm, reconciliation and not only celebration. Let what You begin in a meeting be established in our character, our families, and our structures. Heal our land, and let no one steal Your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.
CONFESSION
"I do not want an experience without transformation. Awaken me, revive Your work in me, and let Your outpouring produce lasting obedience."
PROPHETIC APPLICATION
DIGGING DEEPER
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Examine your own life and your community and name specifics, not generalities, under each heading: 1. Awakening — where have I gone spiritually numb? 2. Revival — what work of God in us has grown cold and needs reviving? 3. Renewal — what practice, devotion, or relationship needs vitality restored? 4. Reformation — what structure, pattern, or system in my home, work, or church does not align with the Kingdom? 5. Outpouring — what would I need God to release that no human effort can produce? Pray each item by name daily for the next thirty days.
