Not the state of being wise, but a released utterance carrying divine skill for a specific situation. Compare Solomon''s request in for a "hearing heart" to discern — wisdom in Scripture is always tied to governing a real situation, not to abstract insight.

Skill in applying truth — not the accumulation of information but the capacity to handle a matter rightly. In Scripture, wisdom is practical before it is philosophical: knowing what to do with what you know.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Paul aboard the ship to Rome () — a prisoner with no authority whose Spirit-given wisdom governed the survival of 276 people. Divine strategy came through the one person on board with the least positional power and the most surrendered ear.

EXPOSITION

A word of wisdom is a Spirit-given release of divine strategy, direction, application, or insight for a particular situation. Begin with distinctions, because this manifestation is the one most often confused with something natural. A word of wisdom is not natural intelligence. It is not academic knowledge. It is not accumulated life experience. It is not general biblical wisdom — which every believer is commanded to pursue in . It is not personal opinion delivered with confidence. And it is not strategic guessing dressed in spiritual language. Nor is it merely a wise statement. Wise statements are wonderful and we need more of them. But a logos sophias is a specific manifestation in which the Holy Spirit reveals how Heaven intends a situation to be approached. shows it plainly. Paul is a prisoner on a ship heading into a storm. He is not the captain, not the owner, not the centurion. Yet three times divine wisdom comes through him and it is intensely practical. First, a warning against sailing (verses 10, 21) — what not to do. Then, in the middle of the storm, assurance and direction: no life will be lost, the ship will be lost, and they must run aground on a certain island (verses 22-26). Then, when the sailors attempt to escape by lowering the boat, Paul says something startling: "Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved" (verse 31). God had already promised that all would live — yet wisdom identified the human action required to walk out the promise. Then he tells them to eat, because they will need strength (verse 34). Study that pattern. Divine wisdom addressed timing, danger, human behavior, morale, and physical need. It preserved 276 lives. Nobody was impressed by Paul; everybody was saved by obedience. So spiritual wisdom may include what to do, what not to do, when to move, when to wait, how to respond, how to protect people, how to apply revelation already received, and how to resolve a genuinely complex situation. Notice the relationship between wisdom and knowledge, because this is where much damage occurs. Knowledge tells you what is true. Wisdom tells you what to do about it. A believer may accurately perceive that a marriage is in trouble, that a leader is compromised, that a decision is dangerous — and then handle it so badly that the accuracy of the perception makes things worse. Revelation without wisdom wounds people. This is why God rarely gives revelation and withholds wisdom from those who ask. Test it the way you test everything. Does it align with Scripture? Does it produce order or confusion? Does it protect people or expose them unnecessarily? Does it serve God''s purpose or someone''s agenda? Does it stand when submitted to mature counsel? Divine wisdom is not threatened by examination — says wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Read that list again as a diagnostic. Wisdom that arrives harsh, unapproachable, partial, and demanding of unquestioning compliance did not come from above. The Kingdom significance is enormous. Nations, families, churches, and businesses have been preserved because one surrendered person received Heaven''s approach to an impossible situation. Joseph interpreted a dream — but it was the wisdom of the storage strategy that saved the region. Solomon judged between two women — but it was the wisdom of the sword''s test that revealed the true mother. God does not merely tell His people what is happening. He shows them how to handle it.

REFLECTION

Have you ever received accurate information but lacked wisdom concerning how to handle it? What was the outcome?

PRAYER

Father, give me wisdom equal to every revelation, responsibility, and assignment You entrust to me. Where I have knowledge without skill, teach me. Where I have insight without timing, restrain me. Let the wisdom You give be pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy, and let it preserve people rather than impress them. Show me how Heaven intends this situation to be approached. In Jesus'' name, Amen.

CONFESSION

"God gives me not only what is true, but how to handle it. I will not move on revelation without wisdom."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Stop asking only for problems to disappear. Begin asking God for the approach — the timing, the wording, the order of steps, the people to involve, and the things to leave unsaid.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Choose one complex situation you are carrying. Instead of praying for it to disappear, pray specifically for divine strategy. Ask: What should I do? What should I not do? When should I move? Who should be protected? Write down what comes, wait on it for three days, and test it against Scripture and mature counsel before acting. REFLECTION QUESTIONS 1. Where are you currently asking for relief when you should be asking for strategy? 2. Whose counsel could test the wisdom you believe you have received? 3. Has any word you called wisdom failed the test?
