The New Testament uses epiphainō for God's decisive breaking-in — , 'the grace of God has appeared'; , 'to give light to those who sit in darkness.' It is the vocabulary of interruption. Heaven does not merely influence Earth; at times it interrupts it, and Scripture treats those moments as revelation of God's character, not spectacle for its own sake.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Shepherds on an ordinary night are met with an extraordinary sky. Heaven interrupts Earth — not in a palace, not before scholars, but over a working-class field. The interruption reveals what God has always been like: a Father who stoops, who announces, who sends His Son to the overlooked.

EXPOSITION

opens with normalcy: 'shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.' Verse 9 pivots on a single word: 'And behold.' An angel of the Lord appears; the glory shines around them; they are 'greatly afraid.' Heaven's interruption is never trivial and never sensational for its own sake. The angel's message in verses 10-12 reveals the meaning of the moment: 'good tidings of great joy… a Savior… Christ the Lord.' The sky opens not so the shepherds will have a story to tell but so that God's redemptive purpose can be announced. Verse 14 explodes with a choir: 'Glory to God in the highest.' Scripture records other interruptions — Sinai (), Isaiah's throne room (), Pentecost (), Damascus road (). Each reveals God's character and advances His redemptive plan. Kingdom perception refuses to chase interruptions as ends in themselves; it reads them as unveilings of who God is and what He is doing.

PRAYER

Father, You are the God who breaks in. When You interrupt, do not let me chase the interruption; let me behold You. Anchor me in Your character revealed in Christ. Keep me sober, hungry, and worshipful — always for the King, never for the spectacle. In Jesus' name, amen.
