Pattern, model, blueprint, architectural plan. Derived from banah, to build. A tavnit is a design received rather than invented — the form of the thing before the thing exists.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

David and Solomon (; 28–29; –7). David received the pattern by the Spirit, amassed materials, organized the priesthood, charged the leaders, and then transferred it. Solomon built exactly to that pattern, and at the dedication “the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God” (). Two generations, one pattern, one glory. Compare Uzzah and the new cart (; 15:13) — David's own painful lesson that even right intention with wrong pattern brings death, and that he later corrected: “we sought him not after the due order.”

EXPOSITION

“Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof... and the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit” (). Then David adds the astonishing line: “All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern” (v. 19). David could not build the temple. God said his hands had shed blood. Yet God still gave David the pattern. Sit with that. You can receive a blueprint for something you will not personally complete. Kingdom construction is generational, and a man secure in God can prepare with everything he has for a work another man will finish. Notice how thorough the pattern was. Courts, chambers, treasuries, the weight of gold for each lampstand, the divisions of the priests, the courses of service. God's pattern addressed not only structure but administration — who does what, when, and with what. Divine patterns include order, not merely architecture. Notice also how David handed it over. He did not merely give Solomon a plan; he gave him a charge: “Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee” (v. 20). Blueprints without courage produce paralysis. Courage without a blueprint produces waste. The transfer required both. And notice the preparation. David gathered gold, silver, brass, iron, stone, and timber in abundance before he ever handed the plan over (; 29:2–5). He said, “I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God.” Real builders prepare for what they will not personally enjoy. This is where many believers fail. We want the pattern to be about us, in our lifetime, on our schedule, credited to our name. But Kingdom construction is a relay. Some see and prepare; others build and dedicate. The glory belongs to God either way. So ask two questions today. What has God shown me that I must faithfully prepare for even if I do not complete it? And what has been handed to me by someone else that I must have the courage to build?

REFLECTION

What has God shown me that I am tempted to abandon simply because I will not be the one to finish it?

PRAYER

Father, give me the pattern and give me the courage. Where I must prepare for a work I will not finish, keep my heart free of resentment. Where I must build what another prepared, keep my heart free of pride. Make me faithful with the plan, careful with the order, and generous with the materials. Let Your glory fill what is built according to Your design. Amen.

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Write down the pattern God has shown you as clearly as you can — structure, order, people, sequence. Then take one preparation step today that benefits the work more than it benefits your reputation. Prepare materials for a house you may not dedicate.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Write the pattern down. 1. Describe the work God has shown you in writing (). 2. Under it, list three categories: structure, order, people. 3. Fill in what you know; mark honestly what you do not. 4. Identify one thing you can prepare now for a future you may not see. 5. Identify one thing you received from someone else that you must have courage to build.
