GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK THREE: ALIGN GIFTS, GENERATIONS, AND RELATIONSHIPS

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Audio teaching for this study will be posted soon.

HEBREW WORD OF THE DAY

דּוֹר

dor

STRONG'S H1755

Generation; a period of time or the people living in it; also a circle or cycle. In Psalm 78:4, 6, 8, dor is used for the "generation to come" and the rebellious generation of the fathers, stressing continuity from one age to the next.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Joshua's memorial stones (, 20–24). After crossing the Jordan, Israel set up twelve stones "that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?" the parents would tell of God's power. Contrast , where "there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel."

EXPOSITION

“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done... That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments” (, 6–7, KJV). is a long psalm of Asaph that retells Israel's history — the wonders in Egypt, the Red Sea, the wilderness, and Israel's repeated rebellion. It opens with a purpose statement: this story must be passed on. "We will not hide them from their children." The danger is not only that the next generation might reject the faith. It is that the current generation might hide it — through silence, neglect, or distraction. The works of God can be forgotten in a single generation if they are not declared (see ). Notice the chain in verses 5–6: God gave a testimony and law to the fathers; the fathers teach their children; the children arise and declare to their children. Faith is meant to move across four generations in these verses alone. Each generation is both a receiver and a transmitter. And notice the goal in verse 7: "That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments." Passing on faith is not only passing on information. It is passing on hope, memory, and obedience. Verse 8 gives a warning: "And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation." The older generation is honest about its failures. Passing on faith includes passing on lessons from failure, not only stories of success. Making room for the next generation means more than tolerating young people. It means telling them what God has done, involving them in the work, and preparing them to lead. It means the older generation refusing to hoard influence, and the younger refusing to despise the testimony of those before them. A body aligned across generations can carry an assignment longer than any single lifetime. Ask: who am I telling about the works of God? And who am I making room for?

REFLECTION

What works of God in my life have I never told the next generation?

PRAYER

Lord, I will not hide Your works from the generation to come. Give me courage to speak of Your strength and Your wonders. Help me make room for younger believers and prepare them to lead. Let the next generation set their hope in You and not forget Your works. In Jesus' name, amen.

CONFESSION

"I will declare the works of God to the next generation and make room for them to arise."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Share a specific testimony of God's faithfulness with a younger person this week. Invite one young believer to serve alongside you in something you already do.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Memorial stones. 1. Write down five specific works of God in your life or family. 2. Beside each, write who in the next generation needs to hear it. 3. Choose one to share in person, by letter, or by recording this week. 4. Pray over the young people you know by name.
