GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK TWO: ALIGN AS ONE BODY

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Audio teaching for this study will be posted soon.

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

συναρμολογέω

synarmologeō

STRONG'S G4883

To fit or join closely together, to frame together. A compound of syn (together), harmos (joint), and legō (to lay or gather). Used only in Ephesians 2:21 and 4:16, of a building and a body whose parts are precisely fitted.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Solomon's temple stones (). The stones were "made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building." The fitting work was done beforehand so that the stones came together quietly and precisely.

EXPOSITION

“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love” (, KJV). In September we spoke of being "builded together for an habitation of God" (). Here Paul uses a similar idea, but now with the language of a living body rather than a building. The body is "fitly joined together and compacted." "Fitly joined together" translates a word used in the building trade for fitting stones or joints precisely together. Paul uses it also in of the temple "fitly framed together." "Compacted" means knit or held together. The picture is of a body in which every part is properly connected — not merely present, but joined. Notice where this growth comes from: "from whom" — from Christ the Head. The Head supplies; the joints transmit; every part works; the body grows. Life flows from the Head through connection. A member that is present but disconnected cannot receive or pass on what the Head supplies. "That which every joint supplieth" is striking. Joints are places of connection. Some of the most important supply in the body happens at the places where members meet — relationships, partnerships, accountability, service together. Growth does not only happen through gifted individuals; it happens through connected people. "According to the effectual working in the measure of every part" means each part working in its proper measure. Not every part does the same amount or the same kind of work, but every part must do its share. When members do not function, the body is weakened. When they function in their measure, the body "maketh increase... unto the edifying of itself in love." Love is both the environment and the goal. The body grows in love and is built up in love. Misalignment is often felt first as friction at the joints. Alignment is felt as ease of movement — members joined properly to the Head and to one another.

REFLECTION

Am I merely present in the body, or am I truly joined — giving and receiving at the joints?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the Head from whom the whole body grows. Join me properly to You and to Your people. Heal the strained joints in my relationships. Let me supply what You have given me and receive what You supply through others. Build us up in love. In Your name, amen.

CONFESSION

"I am fitly joined to Christ and to His body. What He supplies flows through me."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Identify one "joint" in your life — a partnership, friendship, or ministry team — that is strained or neglected. Take one practical step today to strengthen it: a call, an apology, a thank-you, or an offer to serve.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Examining the joints. 1. Draw a simple diagram with yourself in the center. 2. Connect lines to the believers and ministries you are actually joined to. 3. Mark any connection that is weak or broken. 4. Pray over each line and ask God which one to strengthen first.
