GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK ONE: ALIGN WITH THE HEAD

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Audio teaching for this study will be posted soon.

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

μένω

menō

STRONG'S G3306

To remain, stay, abide, dwell, continue. A favorite word of John, used about ten times in John 15:1–10. It describes settled, ongoing union — not a visit but a residence.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Mary of Bethany (). While Martha was "cumbered about much serving," Mary sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. Jesus did not condemn service, but He said Mary had chosen "that good part." Later it was Mary who anointed Jesus for His burial (), an act of deep discernment that flowed from time spent near Him.

EXPOSITION

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (, KJV). Jesus spoke these words on the night of His betrayal, somewhere between the upper room and Gethsemane (; 18:1). He was preparing His disciples for life after His departure. What would keep them? Not proximity to His physical presence, but union with Him. In the Old Testament, Israel was pictured as a vine God planted (; ). Often that vine disappointed, producing wild grapes. Now Jesus says, "I am the true vine" (15:1). He is what Israel was meant to be, and fruitfulness now comes through connection to Him. The key word is "abide" — to remain, dwell, stay. It appears again and again in this chapter. Jesus does not command the branches to strain, strive, or manufacture fruit. He commands them to remain. Fruit is the natural result of connection. A branch does not bear fruit by effort detached from the vine; it bears fruit because the life of the vine flows through it. "Without me ye can do nothing." That is not exaggeration. We can do many things without abiding — build, organize, preach, gather crowds. But we can do nothing that bears lasting Kingdom fruit. Activity is not the same as fruit. Abiding also involves the Word and obedience. Jesus says, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you" (15:7), and "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love" (15:10). Abiding is not a vague feeling; it is a life of continued dependence, listening, and obedience. And it includes pruning (15:2). The Father cuts back fruitful branches so they bear more. This closes Week One. Christ is Head. There is one King. Direction begins with surrender. And advance begins with abiding. As October moves toward the body, the generations, and the nations, remember: no branch can carry the assignment in its own strength. Abide before you advance.

REFLECTION

Is my fruitfulness flowing from union with Christ, or from activity I could sustain without Him?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the true vine and I am a branch. I confess that I have tried to bear fruit by effort instead of union. Teach me to remain in You. Let Your words abide in me. Prune what You must, and let Your life flow through me so that the fruit of my life glorifies the Father. Without You I can do nothing. In Your name, amen.

CONFESSION

"I abide before I advance. Connected to the Vine, I bear fruit that remains."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Schedule a fixed, unhurried abiding time for each day this week — before phones, meetings, or ministry. Protect it like an appointment with a King. Today, spend at least twenty minutes simply reading and responding in prayer.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Remaining. 1. Circle every use of "abide" or "remain" in . 2. Write what Jesus connects to abiding: words, love, obedience, joy, prayer. 3. Name one area where God may be pruning you. 4. Thank Him for the pruning and ask what fruit He intends.
