GLOBAL ALIGNMENT — WEEK ONE: ALIGN WITH THE HEAD

4% • THE DAILY FORGE

One hour. Every morning. Room for God.

Beginning November 1 • 6–7 a.m. Eastern

Daily video gathering

You're invited. The first daily video will appear here when it is scheduled. Until then, today's study is ready for you.

“Could ye not watch with me one hour?”
Matthew 26:40 (KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples in Gethsemane. His call to watch and pray inspires our invitation to spend about an hour in Scripture, prayer, reflection, and response each day.

Why 4%? Four percent of 24 hours is about 58 minutes—rounded to one hour. This is an invitation, not a rule: Matthew 26:40 inspires it, but it isn't a command for a modern daily program.

KEY SCRIPTURE

GREEK WORD OF THE DAY

κεφαλή

kephalē

STRONG'S G2776

Head. Used literally of the head of the body, and figuratively of that which is supreme, first, or determinative. In Colossians and Ephesians Paul uses it of Christ's authority over the church and His role as the source from which the body receives life and growth (Colossians 2:19; Ephesians 4:15–16).

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Uzzah and the ark (; ). David's desire to bring the ark to Jerusalem was right, the celebration was sincere, and the new cart was impressive. But the ark was carried by a method borrowed from the Philistines () instead of the way God had commanded — on the shoulders of Levites. The result was death and a halted procession. Later David confessed, "we sought him not after the due order" (). Good intention could not replace alignment with God's instruction.

EXPOSITION

“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence” (, KJV). September asked what we would build if God pours. October asks a harder question: is what we built actually connected to the One who owns it? A structure can be sound, ordered, and full of activity and still be misaligned with its Head. This month our banner is plain: align before you advance. Paul wrote to Colossae because the church was being pressured by teaching that added to Christ — rules, rituals, and spiritual experiences presented as the "more" believers needed (, 16–23). His answer was not a new program. It was a fuller vision of Jesus. In verses 15–20 Paul lays out who Christ is in creation and in redemption. He is before all things. All things were created by Him and for Him. And by Him all things "consist" — the Greek word means to hold together, to stand together as a coherent whole. What holds creation together is not an idea; it is a Person. Then Paul moves from the cosmos to the congregation: "he is the head of the body, the church." The same Christ who holds all things together is the Head of the people of God. Headship here is not a ceremonial title. It speaks of source, direction, and authority. The body lives from the Head, takes orders from the Head, and exists for the glory of the Head. Notice the purpose clause: "that in all things he might have the preeminence." Not in some things. Not in Sunday things. In all things. Ministry, finances, relationships, vision, platforms, even the good things we built in September — all of it must answer to Christ. This is where alignment begins. Before we talk about unity with one another, gifts, generations, or nations, we must settle who is Head. A body with many members but no clear head is not a body; it is a collection of parts. Global alignment is not first horizontal. It is first vertical. Everything God builds must answer to Christ.

REFLECTION

If Christ were to examine everything I am building right now, which parts would clearly answer to Him — and which parts answer mostly to me?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are before all things, and by You all things hold together. I confess that I have sometimes built for You without first answering to You. Take Your rightful place as Head over my life, my house, my ministry, and my plans. Where I have borrowed methods that You did not command, correct me. In all things, have the preeminence. In Your name, amen.

CONFESSION

"Christ is Head. What I build answers to Him, and in all things He has the preeminence."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Take one area you invested in during September — a ministry, a project, a relationship, a routine. Write down who actually makes decisions in that area. Then bring it before the Lord today and ask, "Lord, what would change here if You were fully Head?" Obey the first thing He shows you.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Mapping the headship. 1. Read slowly three times. 2. List every statement Paul makes about Christ. 3. Beside each statement, write one area of your life it should govern. 4. Circle the area where Christ's preeminence is weakest. 5. Pray over that area by name and write a one-sentence surrender.
