To hear, listen, understand, obey. In John 10:27, Jesus says His sheep akouō His voice — a hearing that leads to knowing, following, and belonging.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Samuel as a boy learned to distinguish God's voice from Eli's (). It took repetition, mentoring, and a willing "Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening" before discernment matured.

EXPOSITION

Discernment is ultimately relational. Jesus does not say His sheep discern doctrine or debate theology; He says His sheep hear His voice. Familiarity is the foundation of discernment. A sheep does not need to analyze the shepherd's tone; it simply knows. And it knows because it has walked with him through green pastures and dark valleys, morning and evening, day after day. If you struggle to discern God's voice, the problem is rarely mystical — it is relational. Spend more time with the Shepherd, and His voice becomes unmistakable. All other voices, however loud, become strangers. This week we have exercised, listened, tested, loved, and cried out. But at the center of it all is a Person. Discernment flows from intimacy with Him.

REFLECTION

How well do you know the Shepherd's voice? What competing voices have grown louder because your time with Him has grown shorter?

PRAYER

Jesus, my Shepherd, tune my ear to Your voice above every other. Make me so familiar with You that I recognize You instantly. I follow only where You lead. Amen.

CONFESSION

"I am His sheep. I hear His voice. I know Him and I follow Him. No stranger's voice will lead me astray."

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Reflect on this week of Discernment. Write down one truth from each day that God is asking you to walk in. Then spend focused time with the Shepherd today — worship, Word, and silence — and commit the coming week to following His voice.
