With one accord — from homou (together) and thymos (passion, impulse). Not merely present in the same room but unified in inward direction, like instruments tuned to one pitch.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

The 120 in the Upper Room (:4), whose ten days of unified prayer produced the container for Pentecost. Compare Cornelius' house (), a home gathered in expectation where the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard, and the prayer meeting in Mary's house (), where the church prayed without ceasing and Peter walked out of prison.

EXPOSITION

“And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room... These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (). Set the Upper Room beside Babel and the contrast is total. Babel gathered to build upward toward heaven; the Upper Room gathered to wait for heaven to come down. Babel had bricks; the Upper Room had none. Babel sought a name for themselves; Pentecost proclaimed the name of Jesus. Babel ended in confused languages that scattered people; Pentecost produced understood languages that gathered them. Notice what the disciples actually built during those ten days, because they built something. They built unity — homothymadon, with one accord. They built prayer and supplication, sustained and corporate. They built inclusion — men and women, family members, the previously unbelieving brothers of Jesus. They built order — Peter addressing Scripture concerning Judas and the company appointing a replacement according to the word (). That is construction without a single brick. The material was people in agreement, submitted to Scripture, persisting in prayer, waiting on the promise. When the day of Pentecost was fully come, “they were all with one accord in one place” () — and the fire filled the house they had prepared. Notice also that they were obeying an instruction, not manufacturing an experience: “tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (). Waiting was the assignment. Much of the most important Kingdom construction looks like nothing from the outside. And notice the location: a borrowed upper room, unremarkable and unnamed in architecture. God is not impressed by facilities. He responds to prepared people. Presence does not require a monument; it requires agreement, obedience, prayer, and hunger. So if you have no platform, no budget, and no building, you are not disqualified from Kingdom construction. You can build the only material God actually fills.

REFLECTION

What am I building in the room where no one is watching?

PRAYER

Father, teach me to build what has no bricks. Give me one accord with Your people, persistence in prayer, and obedience in the waiting. I do not need a monument; I need Your presence. Find in me and among us a prepared room, and fill the house. In Jesus' name, amen.

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Gather two or three people this week to pray with one accord — in your home, before work, over a phone call. Do not organize an event; build agreement. Then keep it going long enough for it to become a structure rather than a moment.

DIGGING DEEPER

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Build an upper room. 1. Identify two or three people who genuinely want more of God. 2. Set a fixed time and place to pray together. 3. Begin with Scripture, then pray in agreement over one specific thing. 4. Commit to at least four consecutive gatherings. 5. Record what God says and does.
