To be or become wide, to enlarge, to make room. Isaiah 54:2 commands the barren woman to harchivi — cause your tent to be enlarged — an act of preparation performed before any children arrive.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

The widow and the vessels () — “and it came to pass, when the vessels were full... the oil stayed.” Compare Noah's decades of building before rain (; ) and Hezekiah's preparation of storehouses, stalls, and a water conduit (), and the men who dug ditches in a dry valley at Elisha's word before any water came ().

EXPOSITION

“Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left” (). This is God's own instruction on capacity, and He gives it to a barren woman. Nothing had happened yet. There were no children to house. And the command is to enlarge, lengthen, and strengthen — construction before evidence. Notice the two movements. Lengthen the cords: expand your reach, your vision, your expectation. Strengthen the stakes: deepen your anchoring, your foundation, your accountability. Expansion without reinforcement produces a tent that collapses in the first wind. God commands both in the same breath, because capacity is width and depth together. “Spare not” addresses the instinct to be conservative with preparation. Most of us prepare proportionate to what we currently see rather than to what we have asked for. But faith builds toward the promise, not toward the present. Noah built for rain he had never seen. The widow gathered vessels before oil filled them () — and the oil stopped exactly when the vessels ran out. Let that stand as a sober word. The supply ceased not because God's provision failed but because the capacity ended. What you prepared determined what you received. That is the whole theology of this week. Capacity in practical terms is specific. Time capacity: what will you stop doing so you can carry what you asked for? Emotional capacity: what unhealed thing will drain you when responsibility increases? Spiritual capacity: is your prayer life sized for a larger assignment? Structural capacity: who is trained, and what is written down? Financial capacity: what stewardship exists before the resource arrives? So end Phase Three by making room. Do not merely pray for increase. Prepare for it, and prepare like someone who actually believes God answers.

REFLECTION

What have I been asking God for that I have made absolutely no preparation to receive?

PRAYER

Father, I have asked You for more, and today I prepare for it. Enlarge my tent and strengthen my stakes. Show me where to widen and where to anchor. Let me not be found with a small vessel in a season of oil. Make room in me, in my household, and in my assignment for everything You intend to send. In Jesus' name, amen.

PROPHETIC APPLICATION

Choose the single thing you most want God to send and take one preparation step this week that only makes sense if He answers. Clear the space, train the person, write the plan, open the account, or free the day.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE — Gather vessels. 1. Write the request: “Lord, I am asking You for ______.” 2. List five preparations a person who expected that answer would make. 3. Choose two and schedule them. 4. Identify what you must stop doing to create room. 5. Pray aloud over your household and assignment.
