Growing pathway

GROWING · A LIFE BUILT ON JESUS

A Rhythm I Can Continue

Sunday, October 25

Read: Hebrews 10:19–25

The book of Hebrews was written to believers tempted to drift or turn back under pressure. Much of the letter explains how Jesus fulfills the Old Testament priesthood and sacrifices. In 10:19, the writer turns from explanation to encouragement: “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.”

In the tabernacle and temple, the Most Holy Place was entered only by the high priest, once a year. Hebrews says Jesus has opened “a new and living way” (10:20) through His sacrifice. Because Jesus is our great high priest, believers can approach God with confidence—not because we have earned it, but because He has made the way.

Three invitations follow, each beginning “let us.” First, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (10:22). Second, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” (10:23). Third, “let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works” (10:24), not forsaking meeting together but encouraging one another (10:25).

Notice the order. Confidence through Jesus comes first; practices follow. Spiritual habits—reading Scripture, prayer, gathering with others—do not earn grace. They are ways of drawing near, holding on to hope, and helping each other keep going. That is good news for anyone who has started a plan with enthusiasm and then felt guilty after missing a few days.

A rhythm you can continue is better than an ambitious plan you abandon. Consider your real schedule, season of life, and responsibilities. A sustainable weekly pattern of Scripture, prayer, and gathering with others will carry you further than occasional bursts of effort.

Reflect

  1. What has made spiritual habits hard to sustain for me in the past?
  2. How does knowing Jesus opened the way change my approach to God?
  3. Who encourages me, and whom can I encourage?

Pray

Jesus, thank You for opening the way to the Father. Help me draw near with confidence, hold on to hope, and encourage others. Give me a rhythm I can keep, rooted in grace. Amen.

One practical step

Choose a realistic weekly rhythm for Scripture, prayer, and gathering with others, and write it down where you will see it.

Suggested study rhythm

Read the passage, then the teaching. Choose the reflection question that presses most and write a short answer. Pray, then decide when today you will take the practical step. If you miss a day, simply pick up where you are.
